Fettuccine With Blackcurrants And Slightly Soured Cabbage

Thursday, 10 July 2008 by Lore

I SO LOVE pasta but that might not be that obvious if you’re browsing Culinarty’s recipes. It’s about time I change that and what better way to start than participating in the Presto Pasta Nights round-up hosted by Gay of A Scientist in the Kitchen.

Since this is my concoction I’m also sending it to my Original Recipes Round-up. Want to join the fun? Check out what this round-up is all about.

Culiverter - Culinary Unit Converter Widget

Monday, 07 July 2008 by Lore

I’m sure this is a familiar scenario: you find an interesting recipe you’d like to try when you see that the quantities are expressed in a system you’re not familiar with. This happens to me quite often. Europeans think in metric units (grams, centimeters, liters and so on), while Americans (yes, the British too, but officially they are using the metric system nowadays) are used to units like: lb, oz etc.

Some recipes have their quantities are expressed in both systems but most don’t. So the fun begins with searching for a unit converter and after finding one I have to jump from the recipe page to the converter page so I can convert the quantities. And while it was fun in the beginning, this “sport” starts to get very annoying. I know it isn’t easy for foodies to also post quantities in other system than the one they’re accustomed to (trust me I know :) ). Still something can be done: adding a unit converter on the recipe page.

And that’s exactly what I did: I’ve added a culinary unit converter (which contains the most common units) to my sidebar. I know it will be useful to my readers and it saves me the trouble of converting every new recipe I post about.

If you want to offer this time-saver to your readers too, just paste the entire code below anywhere in your sidebar.

If there are some units you use quite often but they’re not included in this widget, please let me know and I’ll do my best to include them (they will appear automatically in the widget).

Hot Dog With A Twist

Thursday, 03 July 2008 by Lore

Since the 4th of July is almost here, I’ve been asking myself what is the dish I always associate with the US. I didn’t have to think a lot and came up with the answer (good work you US branding pros!). Even if it might not be proper to call it a dish, my answer was the hot dog. And that despite the sausage being called frankfurter ;) That branding team knows its job, that’s for sure :)

So, I was thinking of making some hot dogs with a twist, hope you’ll like them! And because they’re made with chicken frankfurters, I’m going to send them over to Nutriferia because they are Hungry For Some Chicken until July 18th

Introducing Nutrielle

Friday, 27 June 2008 by Lore

Food means so many things to all of us: the perfect taste buds pleaser, a way of getting all the nutrients our body needs from local, home-grown ingredients, food is what helps us lose or gain weight and is keeping us healthy.

What makes us a great community? Our love of food is most definitely one of the main ingredients. Sharing this love, is what first brought us together and has worked as a glue ever since, much like the cheese of a grilled cheese sandwich :D
