Easy Tasty Desserts - Take 1

easy dessert

My mom would only eat milk and cereals if it were for her. Maybe that sounds a little bit strange but when you come to think about it, I can see how that makes sense. Like her daughter she gets hungry more often than other people, unlike her daughter she gets up very early in the morning to go to work. So when you get up in the middle of the night to go to work you’re not really in the mood to make pancakes, you cannot make pancakes at work, when you come back from work, exhausted you don’t feel like making pancakes either. Milk and cereals: fast, taste ok, and nutrients that suit her needs.

Important pieces of information: recently mom read that at her age, even a glass of milk a day is more than enough, she likes sweets very much, she was the one that first introduced me to the world of walnuts and honey as a dessert, she keeps reminding me over the phone how good are walnuts for me and last but not least I happen to know there is a sour cherry compote standing in her kitchen right now.

With those pieces of information in my mind I made this fast and easy dessert by taking my mom’s walnuts&honey and boosting it up a little bit. Who knows? It might even replace milk and cereals. At least for my mom, right mom ;) ? Mmm…a sweet “breakfast-dessert”.

Ingredients

  • • Crispy chocolate cereals – not too sweet
  • • Sour cherries - from compote
  • • Honey
  • • Organic walnuts (mine were directly from the source. Thanks mom!:) )

Sour cherries perfectly balance the honey’s sweetness and the cereals’ crispiness add the extra fun.

Not to forget about how good walnuts are for you :) ! Let me clear that up. Walnuts are good because they are rich in minerals (especially potassium and phosphorus, but they also contain: magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc and selenium) and omega-3 fatty acids . Omega-3s are helpful in lowering your cholesterol.

Nowadays everyone tries to avoid fat, but the truth is we need some fat in order to function correctly. Still, not all fats are the same. Walnuts are a great source of those essential fats. They’re called essential because we really need them.

Walnuts also contain important antioxidants and these are in charge of taking our immune system to the “Popeye level”.

They’re really great for exhaustion and general physical weakness. See mom? I was really listening :) .

I like all of it but the chocolate cereal and the milk (childhood food trauma). :-)

Can I just sprinkle the walnuts and fruit on Greek yogurt along with some granola?

Oh we’re cold cereal fiends here–if the national supply ran out we’d be doomed.

Vero - iti multumesc foarte mult :D. Am sa intru pe blogul tau cat de curand!

Ann - oh, sorry to hear about your childhood food trauma. We will have to fix that ;). I didn’t use any milk though. Greek yoghurt sounds good and sure you can replace the chocolate cereals with granola, just don’t forget about the honey!

Scribbit - You too? :) If the inter(national) supply would ran out, I guess we would be blogging about how to grow our own corn :))
